Our Story
From the beginning
SMS Central has had a colourful and exciting existence over the past 10 years or so. Originally founded and managed by Aron Steg (Australia’s own ‘Mr Mobile’), SMS Central has continually grown and evolved from its inception in the late 90s. Under the direction of Aron, SMS Central (formally smsc.com.au) grew from humble beginnings, from developing and pioneering end to end interactive mobile solutions for businesses to becoming one of Australia’s global Premium SMS and MMS providers. SMS Central always developed all its own messaging applications and gateways in-house, providing it with the reliability and expertise Australian businesses required.
As one of the most recognised brands in the SMS industry, SMS Central was quickly acquired by ASX listed company, Commquest, in 2007. Commquest owned and operated SMS Central for 2 years until the end of 2009.
The big change
Late in 2009 another chapter was added to the story. In December 2009, just in time for Christmas, SMS Central was acquired by high profile ‘Serial Entrepreneur’, Domenic Carosa and current CEO, David Freeland. Although SMS communication was a relatively newly established business communication tool in Australia, Both David and Domenic noticed a trend in the SMS industry: existing providers were focusing on outdated products, competing on price and cutting costs to the detriment of service and, most importantly, reliability.
Growing up
Since the acquisition of SMS Central (now finally at home at – smscentral.com.au) , the business invested in developing Australia’s latest and most advanced SMS and MMS messaging tools. But that wasn’t enough for us. We knew that Australian businesses deserved more from their SMS provider, so we completed the development and installation of a completely redundant data centre infrastructure and system backend (yes we are tech nerds!!). There was one goal in mind: ensuring SMS Central can continue to deliver its SMS and MMS messages no matter what’s going on around us.
