What is PSMS and PMMS?

Premium SMS and MMS is the ability to deliver and bill for mobile services and content – also known as micro billing. Premium SMS provides an ideal method to supply information, content and entertainment to consumers while generating a revenue stream for your business. Entertainment services (impulse buys) sports updates, (latest scores) and lifestyle updates (entertainment updates) can become a great and profitable Premium SMS or MMS service.


How does it work?

Premium SMS or MMS utilises the same messaging ability as normal SMS and MMS, however, with one very unique difference: the end consumer, or subscriber, is billed for the message sent directly to their handset. Your subscribers can be billed in two methods:
1. MO (mobile originated) Messages are sent from your Premium service through SMS Central to the consumer mobile phone.
2. MT (mobile Terminated) Messages are sent from your consumer’s mobile phone to your Premium service through SMS Central.

Australian Compliance

Still want to know more about the compliance regulations for Australia? Really???? OK here it is . J Development of the code for Australian compliance for Premium SMS service involves multiple parties who work together to ensure Australian services lead the world in transparency and simplicity for everyone involved. These parties include Communications Alliance, ACMA and WMC Global.

Communications Alliance is responsible for creating the industry code which SMS Central enforces. Communications Alliance have two documents that make for good reading: Industry code G637 and G638.


WMC Global monitors Premium SMS services by reviewing and auditing in market advertising, including magazine advertising, television commercials, customer care lines and using your service to ensure your message flow works correctly (at least you get revenue with the last test!) WMC provides good updates and answers for your most frequently asked questions.

ACMA is the Australian Communications and Media Authority. Part of their responsibility is to monitor Australian Premium SMS services. They complete this by running regular audits of random Premium SMS services. ACMA may also have some answers to questions .
