From the beginning
SMS Central has had a colourful and exciting existence over the past 10 or so years. Originally founded and managed by Aron Steg (Australia’s own ‘Mr Mobile’), SMS Central has continually grown and evolved from its inception in the late 90s. Under Aron’s direction, SMS Central grew from developing and pioneering end-to-end interactive mobile solutions for businesses, to becoming one of Australia’s global Premium SMS and MMS providers.
The big change
In December 2009, just in time for Christmas, SMS Central was acquired by high profile serial entrepreneur, Domenic Carosa and current CEO, David Freeland. David noticed a trend in the SMS industry: existing providers were focusing on out-dated products, competing on price and cutting costs to the detriment of service and reliability. And that’s when the decision was made to not follow the industry but to build a company that would stand out.
Since the acquisition of SMS Central, the business has invested in developing Australia’s latest and most advanced SMS messaging tools. But that wasn’t enough for us.
In 2010, we completed the development and installation of a completely redundant data centre infrastructure and system backend with one goal in mind: ensuring SMS Central can continue to deliver its SMS messages no matter what’s going on around us. In 2011, a new interface was developed, with added features and functionality.
In 2012, SMS Central acquired BlueCentral Mobility, giving us direct relationships with all major carriers in Australia and New Zealand. The big result: improved delivery and higher reliability.
By the end of 2012, SMS Central relaunched its brand, alongside a major redesign of the user experience and interface of its portal.
What does the future hold? Our goals are to raise the bar for customer service to change the way SMS is used as a messaging tool, and to change the face and functionality of SMS software for good.
